| Schoodic Bog in Sullivan. This 500-acre property encompasses all of the 150-acre bog at the foot of the southern slope of Schoodic Mountain. A fairly short and easy hike along first a gravel road and then a trail passes through regenerating woodlands. In the distance, Schoodic Mountain provides a magnificent backdrop to the gently sloping and meandering walk. Aside from the wind blowing through the trees, you will hear very little sound, just the occasional calls of the resident chickadees and visiting waterfowl. Ospreys and various types of hawks glide silently and effortlessly overhead. After about a quarter of a mile along the trail, you will come upon Johnny's Brook, where several beaver lodges and dam structures are visible from the trail. |

A short distance from the Brook, the trail meets inactive railroad tracks. You can continue to the north along the railroad bed and after rounding a bend, the bog will start to come into view. On one side of the right-of-way is a spectacular view of Schoodic Mountain. On the other side is a huge expanse of wetlands, along with gentle hills and woods. Here you can clearly see the different bog ecosystems, as well as some of the bog's many inhabitants.
