Indian Point in Ellsworth. This park is a newly acquired property on the Union River in Ellsworth, across Card's Brook from the marina.

In June, the Maine Conservation Corps completed the first of two trails planned for the property. The new trail winds through the woods, over bog bridges constructed by the Corps, and down to a crest overlooking the Union River. Hikers can continue along a game path to the scenic point along the Union River. Once at the river, you can view downtown Ellsworth, or look across the river, where eagles and ospreys can usually be seen. The spectacular view of Ellsworth is worth the short hike out to the end of the point.
When funding is available, the Conservancy plans to have the Corps return to the site to construct the second trail, which will be constructed to comply with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards to allow more people access to this wonderful spot. The proposed gravel trail will run along the ridge of the property and will meet up with the existing trail at the crest overlooking the river. In addition to the Corps, volunteers from the local schools, College of the Atlantic, and the Ellsworth Rotary have donated materials and their time to put some of the finishing touches on the Indian Point property. |
